A journalist; an accomplished news reporter and experienced cross-platform editorial manager. A writer; able to produce crisp editorial copy and engaging longer-form pieces. A participant; broadly curious and deeply engaged in public affairs and debate.
I am passionate about the craft and want to shape its future; a student of the business of media and changing reporting models. I am a fully-equipped digital journalist, a convergence convert, with an excellent grasp of the trends and applications driving new and social media.
For more than five years I have worked across print and online for business-to-business publisher Trader Business Media, a division of ACP Magazines, rising through the ranks of a busy production hub to the position of Managing Editor. I oversee industry-leading trade titles, managing a national team of dedicated journalists and contributors while working with teams in advertising, marketing, circulation and IT to drive reader engagement and revenue growth across titles and platforms. I have managed successful launches of new magazine, website and other digital editorial products into highly-competitive markets.
After graduating from the Queensland University of Technology with a Bachelor of Journalism, I did stints at ABC News Online as a producer and have worked extensively as a freelance writer/journalist on a number of assignments.
I have written industry research for custom book publisher Focus and provided profiles for print projects with News Limited publishers Advertiser Newspapers and News Custom Publishing. I have had work published at the Brisbane Times and I have contributed commentary on media and national affairs to online publications including New Matilda, ABC Unleashed, Crikey, On Line Opinion and mUmBRELLA. I have also had an essay commissioned for media industry publication The Walkley Magazine.
I write on theatre and live performance for Australian Stage Online and blog on media and public policy at importanceofideas.com.
